Since 2001, United Medicare has provided Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) checks to clients across the United Kingdom. There are a number of services which we are able to provide, depending on your company or organisation’s requirements and circumstances.
If you are unsure of the checks you need, we advise contacting DBS, Access NI or Disclosure Scotland to clarify your position, or you can ask our expert team for advice.
The disclosure checks and services we currently provide are as follows:
If you are recruiting for a post that requires contact with children and vulnerable adults, this is the check required. In addition to PNC information, an enhanced disclosure also provides information on non-conviction data, and information held on Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) lists.
As the name suggests, Standard DBS Disclosure is suitable for the vast majority of cases. This disclosure provides details of all convictions noted on the Police National Computer, including spent convictions, police cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
DBS Adult First Request is a DBS-provided service which is used in cases where a candidate needs to start work with vulnerable adults before a DBS Certificate is issued. This is only used in exceptional cases in accordance with Department of Health guidance.
List 99 is maintained by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and contains details of any teachers who are banned from or otherwise unsuitable for working with children in education. This is not a replacement for a DBS check, but United Medicare can provide this service separately if necessary.
Originally a healthcare recruitment agency and now an umbrella body, United Medicare is a nationally-recognised specialist in arranging DBS checks for positions in the healthcare industry. We’re able to offer expert advice and assistance on arranging checks on doctors, nurses, vets, surgeons, pharmacists, paramedics and any other medical personnel.
As with any industry focused on children, the education industry requires stringent DBS checks. We’ll provide DBS checks for any position in universities, colleges and schools, along with checks on other trainers and tutors.
The legal profession require DBS checks as a matter of course. United Medicare has provided these checks for the legal profession for over a decade, including checks for solicitors, barristers, justices’ clerks and all related staff.
Maternity nurses, nursing staff, child minders, nannies and babysitters all require DBS checks in order to work with children. United Medicare is able to provide these checks on behalf of your business.
Many areas of local authority work are focused on at risk groups such as children and vulnerable adults, necessitating DBS checks for all members of staff. Having provided these services to Torbay Council since 2007, United Medicare has the experience and expertise to assist your council too.
United Medicare is able to provide full DBS checks for any other industry in England and Wales, Disclosure Scotland checks in Scotland, and Access NI in Northern Ireland. However, please note that Basic Disclosures can be provided throughout the UK through Disclosure Scotland and Access NI. So if your industry is not mentioned above, and you still require DBS checks, don’t hesitate to call us.
