VOLUNTEER DBS CHECK

United Medicare is able to handle volunteer DBS checks on your behalf. These checks are free of charge, other than our standard administration fee.

What Defines a Volunteer?

The Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau) defines a volunteer as “a person who performs any activity which involves spending time, unpaid (except for travelling and other approved out-of-pocket expenses), doing something which aims to benefit someone (individuals or groups) other than or in addition to close relatives.”

If you meet these criteria, and are not excluded for reasons detailed below, you may be eligible for a volunteer DBS check.

Exclusions to Volunteer DBS Checks

A candidate is not eligible for a volunteer check if:

  1. The candidate requires payment for any “volunteer” work, in excess of approved expenses, or if the candidate benefits directly from the position (such as an intern or student on work experience) in terms of future employment.
  2. Even if the position is at a registered charity which will be offering the candidate  remuneration (financial or otherwise). This includes training positions, as a period of training is classed as non-financial remuneration by DBS even if it is a charity.

Please note that if the candidate has a volunteer DBS Disclosure, it is not necessary to check them against List 99, as this is included with the DBS check.

Since Changing to United Medicare Ltd, I have found the staff very helpful, polite and engaging. The service provided is prompt and act as a very useful resource. The First POVA checks are promptly returned however I understand the CRB`s are longer with strict criteria having to be adhered to. Our plan is to continue with United Medicare Ltd, the service is great. Many Thanks
